Random Musings - The Monday Edition

So the weekend was full of visiting and shopping. Visiting was fun and a good time was had by all, or at least I like to think so.

Shopping was interesting too. After the success of the running start, I decided to get an ipod shuffle to help with continuing the running adventure. It's much easier to exercise when you aren't listening to the pounding of blood in your ears. The Ipod purchase was also hastened by the relative success that the running has met with, but more on that below.

So, after Friday was taken as a day off from the running, which was missed once I got to work, Saturday and Sunday proceded at a much better pace. The 7km route on Saturday I managed in 49 minutes, which meant that I achieved my first time goal of 7min/km for 7km. This was a surprise as I expected it to be at least 2 weeks before that happened. On Sunday we only went for a 4km run and I managed to shave 2 minutes off my time there, leaving me with a 26 minute run, or 6,5 min/km, a nearly respectable time. This speed I think was aided by the Ipod, justifying me buying it. I don't expect to continue with this rate of achievement, but if I keep the running going I think slow progress will occur. So don't look out for the 4 minute mile yet.

The running continues

So, much to my chagrin, and I am sure to everyone elses, the running has continued through 6 straight days. Yesterday was probably the most painful one so far, both in getting up and the run itself. However, today was relatively straightforward. I am slowly improving my time on the 4km run and am homing in on that 28 minute mark. Once I hit that, the next step is 24 minutes. but I'll probably only get there once I can run most of the distance as opposed to the walking that I am doing now. But it will come.

Saturday and Sunday will be the test, with 7km being the distance on those days. If I have improved on the 52 minutes I managed last time I will be happy.

In other news, watched "Wild Hogs". This was more amusing than I thought it would be, and i may even consider starting up the reviews again. But I need to fix a rating system first. The old one just didn't seem to work, so I am looking at a new one based on watchability and dodginess. categories that i think I may be qualified to judge.

The long weekend is over

So, a long weekend has come and gone. It was interesting. Made a couple of changes, did a few things, all in all a useful 4 days.

I've decided to start running again. Now for a change, this wasn't just a decision, but action was taken on it too. This came about because of the weight I seem to have put on and can't seem to shift. So, running it is. Started on Saturday with 7km. not running the whole way, due to my low levels of fitness, but still, 53 minutes. not too horrific. followed this up with 4km on Sunday, 7km on Monday and another 4 this morning. This morning was tough as it required a very early start, 4:30. If I can keep it up for a couple of weeks it won't be so much of an issue.

Also, in my quest to become a better photographer, I have posted another 2 pics to Deviant Art. let me know what you think.

Monday was an interesting trip to Jo'burg Zoo. They are really trying to upgrade the enclosures, and the new ones make the Polar Bear enclosure look terrible again. oh well, hopefully they do something about it.

That is all.

It's not an April Fools thing

After all you bastards thinking that the resurrection was a bad April fools joke, I thought I had better post something else fairly quickly.

So, one of the things I am trying to do is take better photo's. This includes using my camera better, and learning how to do interesting things in Photoshop. For the results of my recent effort, have a look at my deviant art page. And if you feel like leaving helpful comments, please do.

A new start

Seeing as how New Year's resolutions always fail, I have decided to try a new approach, think of them as Birthday resolutions, or things I want to do before I am 29. This involves quite a number of things, and with a bit of luck and some dedication these will get done.

I have resurrected the blog as a way of documenting certain things, and so that I can keep a record of progress, or lack thereof.

Instead of 1 blog for each idea, I'' try to be organised and keep them all in teh same blog, but we will have to see what happens. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but time will tell.
