The blog is dead

So I haven't updated this since August, andf I haven't felt any need to update it either. Basically, I have decided to kill the blog and not do the Nano. There are a number of reasons, but mainly I am sick of feeling guilty for not updating. The Nano unfortuneately fell during a difficult time when I knew i would be too busy to dedicate the amount of effort required to finish it, and so I decided to not start it. I am probably still going to write up the ideas at some point. but we will see.

I have some ideas in place for a few websites that I am thinking of launching in the new year, so I am busy getting content together for them If this happens, I may update here with the links. Otherwise, unless something truly memorable happens that just has to be shared via the wonder that is google blogger, don't expect anything much to happen here.

Hoblit is still around - for now

So, I haven't got around to a lot of things I've been meaning to do. No new websites or even updates on websites already around, no name change, and basically nothing regarding a whole lot of stuff.

But enough of the negative.

I've been entering more races and have managed to start completing 10km in a semi respectable time of 67 minutes. Hopefully I can crack the 65 minute mark on Sunday. We have entered the 20km walk which is part of the Soweto Marathon, so that should be amusing if nothing else. on the cards for next year is the City 2 City marathon and the Soweto Marathon. Also, if things go as planned, I might decide to do 94.7 cycle challenge. But we'll have to see about that.

Otherwise, ideas abound, implementation doesn't.

That is all.

Happenings

So, a while ago I posted about Nanowrimo for charity. I have finally started doing something about it. Check it out at Nanowrimo for charity

Also, as hoblit is a name which needs to be left behind, this blog is about to move. I am not sure where it is going just yet, but rest assured, you will know when it gets there.

A painful Monday

Recently, I decided to start entering running/walking events. This may not have been the wisest idea, but it was an idea and it was followed through. This has resulted in 3 races in the last four weeks. A 10km in 78 minutes, a 21 km in 172 minutes and a 15 km in 110 minutes. I am hoping to pull these times down further, particularly the 10 km one. should be able to get it under 60 minutes without too much effort, but we will see. There are a few more races happening in August, so we will judge improvement then.

Also, websites have fallen to the wayside. Lack of desire I guess, however will sort this out soon.

The week begins

so, after an eventful weekend containing pie, movies, and acquisition of gaming materials, the week has started again. But enough about the dreadful week and more about the exciting events.

Pie was outstanding. I could almost put up with longer winters if more pie was involved.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was watched. I enjoyed this more than the last one, but that may have been due to lower expectations. This was the worst book of the series so far and as such had lots that could be cut out to be turned into film. Expect a review of this later, hopefully this week, but no promises.

Icon was this weekend and I popped through for a look. As it turned it, it will become a very expensive look as a new gaming system rule book jumped off the shelf into my hands. I have decided that time needs to be made for gaming/painting and this will be done.

That's pretty much it. Hopefully some progress can be made on various things.

Monday and it's another update.

So, Monday as arrived again. No surprise there. And there is another update to the blog. Maybe a small surprise there, but it's been pretty regular recently.

So last week was a bit of a low patch. A couple of things went wrong, some more stuff went wrong, motivation went away, and then even more things went wrong. So not much useful happened.

This has now changed. Websites will start being updated with more frequency, articles will be written more regularly, and a final attempt at the wine stain venture will be made.

Also, a decision was reached to do more 10 km event type things, which should hopefully lead into running more often. but we will have to see.

Finally, an idea was had on Friday. Following halfhaggis's semi successful Nanowrimo last year I have decided to attempt it this year. Nanowrimo happens in November. For me, I am not going to just write a novel, I am going to use it as a fundraiser to raise money for Animals in Distress. What I will be trying to get is pledges for every thousand words. So basically, if you pledge 1 rand per thousand words, and I hit the target, you will have to donate 50 rand to Animals in Distress. I will try and write the novel episodically and post it on a blog. This will hopefully allow me to get it to a larger audience than just people I know. So, let me know what you think.

Wow, look at that, Monday

I've had a few problems in the last week with silly things. Stuff like being banned by Google Adsense, the napkins used in the plonc experiment starting to grow mold, and so on. This led to a large decrease in motivation to do anything. Hence there are no updates planned for today or any other time this week.

However, I will not let this setback stop me from publishing the websites, I will just let it delay me for a short period. So, once I have got motivation back, there will be some more movies reviewed, some more recipes, some more stain fixing experiments, and even some more websites.

Also, the first photo on photoprojects has been posted. Check it out here.

Monday again

So Monday has once again reared it's ugly head but, some progress is being made.

The Dodgy Movie review site has had another update, and the biscuit recipe site is about to get one. I need to change the front page so that it only promises new recipes every 2nd week.

Also had some ideas on what to do on the other sites I want to put up. Watch this space for more info.

Monday and the surprises keep on coming

So, it's monday and I have 3 fewer teeth than I had a week ago. Yes, the wisdom's were removed, and there was far less pain than I was expecting. Of course, the nice strong painkillers may have something to do with that.

Also, some progress has been made on plonc. I now know that ironing does not fix the stains. next step, boiling and boiling with salt.

The Dodgy Movie review
site has finally surfaced. So please link to it. There is a lack of content at the moment, but that should be fixed fairly soon, after all, dodgy movies aren't exactly difficult to find.

Biscuit recipes are still on the way and a new recipe should be up there tomorrow.

The Eeyore site is proving a lot more difficult than I originally thought, mainly because I can't find a decent template for it. I might just have to make one.

And finally, the Lion King was watched on Friday. It was unbelievable. by far the best show I've seen. Do yourself a favour and go watch it.

Writing things

So, I'm trying to subsidise my income through a variety of methods. One of these led me to a writing site called Helium. This is an interesting idea, and we will see whether it pays off or not.

Perusing the site I saw a debate titled Who would win a lightsabre duel, Darth Vader or Darth Maul, and seeing the serious nature of the issue, I decided to put my 2 cents worth in. Check it out.

Good news and Bad News

Well, isn't it always like that, they tend to go hand in hand.

Good News: Quinn and Gaby got engaged. Kim and I are really happy for them and wish them all the best.

Bad News: I have to get my wisdom teeth taken out. I am really unhappy about this although hopefully, it will make the pain in my mouth go away.

More later.

Website almost functional

So, I had wanted to get 2 websites up and running today, and instead I managed to get about 2/3rds of one. This is still OK seeing as how I wanted them both fully functional by the end of the month.

So, the website that is functional is best biscuits. Basically I plan for this one to be a collection of biscuit recipes. should it prove successful, the types of recipes on it may expand. But for now, biscuits seem to be worth focusing on.

Watch this Space

Well, actually, this space isn't going to be doing a whole lot. But I plan on having at least one website up from next week, and possibly 2 or 3 depending on how enthusiastic I am over the weekend.

These sites are ideas I've had for a while, but I've never done anything about them, so their time has come.

9 is not a temperature

So, winter has finally arrived and with it single figure maximum temperatures are here. As far as I am concerned, 9 is not a temperature, 9 is a rating, as in on a scale of 1 - 10 how cold is it.

In other news I have finally gotten round to getting an adsense account and started messing around with the adsense layout's etc. This is in an effort to finally get some sites that I have been thinking about up and running. So please pop through and click on some ads so that I can test the interface out. In case you have forgotten my address, it's here.

Stuff and More Stuff

It's been a while and I was hoping to resurrect the "Dodgy Movie Review" but alas, Spiderman 3 was sold out this weekend and the review will thus have to wait.

Instead of Spiderman, however, we have found a new series called Heroes. The first 12 episodes were watched in close succession over the weekend and the remainder will need to be obtained and viewed.

In other news, contact lenses have been obtained and are being worn. We will just have to see if they can be worn continuously at work or if I'll have the same problems I experienced before.

Random Musings - The Monday Edition

So the weekend was full of visiting and shopping. Visiting was fun and a good time was had by all, or at least I like to think so.

Shopping was interesting too. After the success of the running start, I decided to get an ipod shuffle to help with continuing the running adventure. It's much easier to exercise when you aren't listening to the pounding of blood in your ears. The Ipod purchase was also hastened by the relative success that the running has met with, but more on that below.

So, after Friday was taken as a day off from the running, which was missed once I got to work, Saturday and Sunday proceded at a much better pace. The 7km route on Saturday I managed in 49 minutes, which meant that I achieved my first time goal of 7min/km for 7km. This was a surprise as I expected it to be at least 2 weeks before that happened. On Sunday we only went for a 4km run and I managed to shave 2 minutes off my time there, leaving me with a 26 minute run, or 6,5 min/km, a nearly respectable time. This speed I think was aided by the Ipod, justifying me buying it. I don't expect to continue with this rate of achievement, but if I keep the running going I think slow progress will occur. So don't look out for the 4 minute mile yet.

The running continues

So, much to my chagrin, and I am sure to everyone elses, the running has continued through 6 straight days. Yesterday was probably the most painful one so far, both in getting up and the run itself. However, today was relatively straightforward. I am slowly improving my time on the 4km run and am homing in on that 28 minute mark. Once I hit that, the next step is 24 minutes. but I'll probably only get there once I can run most of the distance as opposed to the walking that I am doing now. But it will come.

Saturday and Sunday will be the test, with 7km being the distance on those days. If I have improved on the 52 minutes I managed last time I will be happy.

In other news, watched "Wild Hogs". This was more amusing than I thought it would be, and i may even consider starting up the reviews again. But I need to fix a rating system first. The old one just didn't seem to work, so I am looking at a new one based on watchability and dodginess. categories that i think I may be qualified to judge.

The long weekend is over

So, a long weekend has come and gone. It was interesting. Made a couple of changes, did a few things, all in all a useful 4 days.

I've decided to start running again. Now for a change, this wasn't just a decision, but action was taken on it too. This came about because of the weight I seem to have put on and can't seem to shift. So, running it is. Started on Saturday with 7km. not running the whole way, due to my low levels of fitness, but still, 53 minutes. not too horrific. followed this up with 4km on Sunday, 7km on Monday and another 4 this morning. This morning was tough as it required a very early start, 4:30. If I can keep it up for a couple of weeks it won't be so much of an issue.

Also, in my quest to become a better photographer, I have posted another 2 pics to Deviant Art. let me know what you think.

Monday was an interesting trip to Jo'burg Zoo. They are really trying to upgrade the enclosures, and the new ones make the Polar Bear enclosure look terrible again. oh well, hopefully they do something about it.

That is all.

It's not an April Fools thing

After all you bastards thinking that the resurrection was a bad April fools joke, I thought I had better post something else fairly quickly.

So, one of the things I am trying to do is take better photo's. This includes using my camera better, and learning how to do interesting things in Photoshop. For the results of my recent effort, have a look at my deviant art page. And if you feel like leaving helpful comments, please do.

A new start

Seeing as how New Year's resolutions always fail, I have decided to try a new approach, think of them as Birthday resolutions, or things I want to do before I am 29. This involves quite a number of things, and with a bit of luck and some dedication these will get done.

I have resurrected the blog as a way of documenting certain things, and so that I can keep a record of progress, or lack thereof.

Instead of 1 blog for each idea, I'' try to be organised and keep them all in teh same blog, but we will have to see what happens. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but time will tell.
